Maryam Al Hashmi

Maryam Al Hashmi is a Sorbonne University graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management. As an avid inventor, Maryam’s journey in innovating recycled plastic photovoltaic cells fueled her passion in climate advocacy. She utilized her diplomatic role as a UAE Youth Ambassador to China under the Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi to develop policy proposals for UAE and Chinese stakeholders to further advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and assess climate strategies. Harnessing her involvement in Agenda 2030, Maryam contributed to the authoring of the UAE SDG Annual Report 2017, in which she highlighted the youth’s role in implementing the global goals. She worked on UAE’s file for the High-Level Political Forum where she helped draft the UAE’s Voluntary National Review. To increase cultural understanding and reach all levels of society, Maryam is ardently learning foreign languages, and currently speaks Arabic, English, French, Spanish and Chinese. AlHashmi currently serves as an SDG Associate under the Director General’s Office at Expo 2020. She aims to use this platform and her interests in climate policy and sustainability to move the needle and connect young minds to advance Agenda 2030 and increase youth participation in climate policy.
